WE’LL ALL BE ANGELS
by
Matt McGinn
We’ll all be angels in the sweet by and by
We’ll all get wings and away we’ll fly
All your food for nothing and your lodgings in the sky
Isn’t it grand to be an angel?
I went down the Gallowgate to see what I could see
There I met a preacher, here’s what he says to me
‘Give over all your drinking, don’t swear or tell a lie
And you’re sure to be an angel in the sweet by and by’
We’ll all be angels in the sweet by and by
We’ll all get wings and away we’ll fly
All your food for nothing and your lodgings in the sky
Isn’t it grand to be an angel?
I went to my employer and I asked him for a rise
I could tell he was religious by the glitter in his eyes
Says, ‘I would make your rich’, he says, ‘but here is what you’d see
When they’re giving out the wings, you would be grounded here wi me’
Oh, we’ll all be angels in the sweet by and by
We’ll all get wings and away we’ll fly
All your food for nothing and your lodgings in the sky
Isn’t it grand to be an angel?
I was knocked doon by a driver, he was either drunk or daft
Though he tore off both my legs, he found all I could dae was laugh
In a few more years where I’m going, I’ll no think on such things
Where’s the need of legs when you’ve a lovely pair of wings?
We’ll all be angels in the sweet by and by
We’ll all get wings and away we’ll fly
All your food for nothing and your lodgings in the sky
Isn’t it grand to be an angel?
I know an angel, she’s bonny as can be
I’ve a fancy for her but she disnae fancy me
She turns and she snubs me every time I try
But I know I’ll get her in the sweet by and by
We’ll all be angels in the sweet by and by
We’ll all get wings and away we’ll fly
All your food for nothing and your lodgings in the sky
Isn’t it grand to be an angel?
